


For this exercise, I drew three still life objects from life: each within two minutes. I can see the value of this method for composition. For example, the olive oil bottles looked interesting on the table; but after looking at the composition on paper, the composition looks boring and cramped. In the other two compositions, the objects aren’t in a natural arrangement – but I think they are more interesting. Before spending hours on a drawing, I could invest just a few minutes making sure the images on paper will convey what I want them to.
